The MSU volleyball team had another close match this weekend, but were unable to stop a five-game slide in falling 3-2 at No. 9 Minnesota Friday.

Last season, the MSU field hockey team had a strong run and finished near the top of the Big Ten, but fell one step short of accomplishing all its goals. The Spartans finished second in the conference and lost one round short of reaching the Final Four.

A shot by Minnesota’s Tamara Strahota ricocheted off junior defender Samantha Cook and into the net, and it looked as though that fluke play would send the MSU women’s soccer team to yet another deflating loss.

The Big Bear Trophy was up for grabs Sunday afternoon. But the MSU men’s soccer team is returning it to its cage in the Spartans’ locker room, as they defeated Michigan 2-1 on Sunday at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.

Penn State throttles Michigan, Pryor returns to form for OSU
The Nittany Lions defeated the Wolverines on Saturday for the first time at Michigan Stadium since 1996. Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark went 16-for-27 for 240 yards and four touchdowns for the Nittany Lions (7-1 overall, 3-1 Big Ten)
