Spartans' 'unselfishness' results in dominant win over UMKC

In an 89-54 win over UMKC on Monday at Breslin Center, there was plenty for MSU men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo to be pleased with. However, one thing in particular stuck out to Izzo, and it’s something he has seen often 12 games into the season. “Maybe the best part for me has been the unselfishness of this team,” Izzo said.

Rathje named Third-Team All-American

The awards keep rolling in for MSU volleyball senior outside hitter” Jenilee Rathje”:http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/rathje_jenilee00.html, who was named an AVCA third team All-American on Tuesday. Rathje’s selection makes her the ninth All-American in MSU history and she becomes the first top-three team selection since Ashley Schatzle in 2007 — Rathje’s freshman year. In her final season with the team, Rathje led the Spartans in kills with 505, a career best which also was good enough for third in the Big Ten and in the top 25 in the nation.

Men's basketball tops No. 22 Gonzaga, 74-67

The MSU men’s basketball team won Saturday night at No. 22 Gonzaga, 74-67. The Spartans (8-2) received a career-high 34 points from senior forward Draymond Green to to propel them over the Bulldogs (5-2). Green also grabbed two rebounds, nabbed three steals and dished out three assists.

Hockey falls 4-3 to U-M, hosts rematch Saturday

After a week of hype on top of a history of palpable hatred between MSU and Michigan, it would be the Wolverines who would have the last laugh, as they held off the Spartan rally to get the 4-3 victory at Yost Ice Arena in game one of a home-and-home series.

VOLLEYBALL

Solid season ends for Spartan volleyball

Head coach Cathy George’s squad accrued a 22-12 record and notched its first tournament win since 2007 with a 3-1 win over Arizona on Friday night. MSU had some quality wins, including 3-1 victories over then-No. 22 Michigan and then-No. 7 Illinois.

Spartans remain focused for rivalry

Coming off a series sweep against Bowling Green — the team’s third series sweep of the season — the Spartans (10-5-1, 6-4-0 CCHA) are playing with a lot of confidence and are focused on playing Michigan this weekend.
