The life of a sports fan is tough. Our emotions are constantly fluctuating depending on the success, or lack thereof, of "our teams" the four or five teams we've grown up following and we'd live and die by.

Fasten your seat belts, basketball fans, because this is going to be a wild ride. After watching a slew of upsets tear apart the top 25 teams in the last few days, I have decided that the theme of the 2005-2006 men's college basketball season is "Who wants to get a national championship?" Illinois superstar guard Dee Brown was less than impressive at Saturday's game against Iowa, which contributed to the Fighting Illini's 48-63 upset.
The road has not been kind to the No. 11 MSU women's basketball team this season. The Green and White have been perfect at Breslin Center, winning all nine of their home games, but are only batting .500 in the six games they've played outside of East Lansing. The Spartans (12-3 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) will have to improve in that respect if they are to stay at the top of the Big Ten Conference standings.
Madison, Wis. Tom Izzo thinks MSU should be considered 2-0 in the Big Ten right now. Oh sure, the standings will show Illinois and Wisconsin each recently recorded a victory over the Spartans.
Get the lowdown on the recruiting class that's coming to MSU. Isaiah Dahlman Shooting guard/small forward 6 foot 6, 175 pounds Braham Area High School (Braham, Minn.) Isaiah Dahlman helped Braham extend its conference record to 3-0 by scoring 39 points in a 92-62 victory against East Central on Thursday, according the St.
The Spartans just can't seem to buy a break when they've had to make the long, dreaded trek to Alaska-Fairbanks. When the Spartans (6-7-4 overall, 3-5-3 CCHA) made the journey last February, they were stricken with sickness.

The MSU women's track and field team will hold its annual Green and White meet at Jenison Field House today and Friday.
Fifty-five MSU student-athletes have been named Academic All-Big Ten for the fall semester. MSU is sixth in the conference in total number of athletes selected, but ninth in number of selections per team.
If MSU senior wrestling captain R.J. Boudro noticed one thing that stands out about the team this season, it's discipline.
Way to go, BCS. You finally got it right. The four major bowls have teams where they belong, and this year there is only one team that has a reason to complain about anything. Sorry Oregon, but an Ohio State-Notre Dame matchup in the Fiesta Bowl is a lot more intriguing than you against either one of those teams.
MSU head coach Rick Comley has watched his injury-stricken team go from 5-1-1 through seven games to its current 6-7-4 record.
You might have seen him on The Ultimate Fighter 2 reality show on Spike TV. In Vegas, he's a celebrity. But here at MSU, Rashad Evans is just a normal guy and a new volunteer assistant coach for the men's wrestling team.
The MSU women's basketball team will hit the Breslin Center floor tonight having played only one game in the last 10 days. After a disappointing two-loss performance in the Paradise Jam, followed by an eight-day layoff before Sunday's 82-64 win over Pepperdine, the Spartans finally get back on a regular schedule with a 7 p.m.
Two MSU wrestlers earned tournament titles Sunday at the Nittany Lion Open at Penn State University.
The No. 14 MSU men's basketball team will play its third Top 10 team of the season when it squares off against No.
Senior forward Liz Shimek has been named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week. She scored 28 points and was 13-for-15 from the field in the Spartans' win over Pepperdine on Sunday.
The MSU women's swimming and diving team earned fourth place in the Ohio State Invitational Sunday afternoon, while the men finished fifth. Senior Ian Clutten took third in the 200 breaststroke, senior Katrina Kniff took eighth in the 100 freestyle, freshman Heather Kiluk was 10th in the 200 backstroke and senior Erika Templeton was 11th in the 200 breastroke.
It's seven games into the season and the men's basketball team still seems to be sleepwalking through its games against weaker opponents, relying on talent instead of hard work and discipline. The No.
Dear Santa, I'm one big unhappy kid. This year in sports has had too many downs to feel good about anything.
