Volleyball falls to Purdue in four sets

Despite a strong start, the No. 11 Purdue Boilermakers proved to be too much for the MSU volleyball team to handle Saturday evening as the Spartans fell, 3-1. With the loss, the Spartans (17-7 overall, 6-6 Big Ten) split their week’s games for the sixth straight time this season.

Women's cross country wins second straight Big Ten title

The MSU women’s cross country team claimed second straight conference title Sunday at the 2011 Big Ten Cross Country Championship hosted by Illinois in Urbana, Ill. The title is the women’s fourth overall. The women headed into the meet ranked 15th by the U.S.

Hockey tops Robert Morris 5-2

It wasn’t pretty, but the MSU hockey team did what it took to get the job done on its home ice. Despite MSU racking up 12 penalties, sophomore forward Greg Wolfe led the way with two goals and an assist, as the Spartans got the most out of their offensive depth and would overpower Robert Morris, 5-2, Friday night at Munn Ice Arena. “Our whole team did a really good job of blocking shots and clearing pucks on the penalty kill,” Wolfe said.

Field hockey looking for offensive production this weekend

Helen Knull’s squad is coming off a tough 2-0 loss to then-No. 7 Michigan, in which the Spartans (7-10 overall, 1-4 Big Ten) were unable to get off a single shot in 70 minutes of play. Knull said the team’s performance showed some weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball, which the team has been working to improve this past week.

Volleyball beats Indiana in 4 sets

For the ninth straight meeting between the MSU volleyball team and the Indiana Hoosiers, the match went beyond three sets. And for the second time this season, the Spartans (17-6 overall, 7-6 Big Ten) toppled the Hoosiers, 3-1.
