After winning two games this weekend and capturing the program’s first-ever outright Big Ten championship, the No. 8 MSU field hockey team saw two of its players earn weekly honors from the conference for their efforts.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Monday it has reached a two-year extension with Ford Field to keep the Michigan high school football championship games in Detroit through at least 2011.

Dantonio defends 3-man rush in Iowa finale

For more than 58 minutes Saturday, the MSU football team shut down Ricky Stanzi. But as the Iowa quarterback’s offense took the field with 97 seconds remaining and 70 yards ahead of them, they saw something they previously didn’t see much of — a three-man MSU defensive front.

Within 10 minutes, two MSU teams almost suffered identical fates. The news of the MSU football team’s heartbreaking loss on the last play of the game against Iowa made its way to Oxford, Ohio at 10:24 p.m.

Hawkeye heartbreak

Mark Dantonio stood on the sidelines with a blank, almost bewildered look on his face. Several players lay on the field in the midst of a large Hawkeyes celebration. A frenzied Spartan Stadium crowd, at a fever pitch prior, was eerily silent.

Spartans celebrate first outright Big Ten title

Last season, the MSU field hockey team had a strong run and finished near the top of the Big Ten, but fell one step short of accomplishing all its goals. The Spartans finished second in the conference and lost one round short of reaching the Final Four.

Men's soccer team wins physical game

The Big Bear Trophy was up for grabs Sunday afternoon. But the MSU men’s soccer team is returning it to its cage in the Spartans’ locker room, as they defeated Michigan 2-1 on Sunday at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.

Saturday’s men’s basketball Green and White game meant ditto in the win and loss column, but provided fans with a first-hand look at some of the team’s biggest story lines entering the season.
