ICE HOCKEY

Spartans score 7 goals in sweep

The MSU hockey team is giving head coach Rick Comley gray hair. In MSU’s last five games, the final two minutes of regulation decided the game’s outcome, with the Spartans winning three of the five nail-biters.

FOOTBALL

A frightful performance

After limiting its opponents to 20 points or fewer in its last four outings, the MSU defense figured to be in shutdown mode as it prepared for Minnesota, which entered Saturday’s game at the bottom of the Big Ten in total offense.

SOCCER

Spartans, Aztecs finish in 1-1 deadlock

The MSU men’s soccer team was drastically outshot, maintained minimal possession and played most of Sunday’s game on its heels. But the Spartans were able to earn a 1-1 result through regulation and two sudden-death overtimes against San Diego State at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field to extend the team’s unbeaten streak to five games.

FOOTBALL

Iowa earns another comeback win, Illinois drops Wolverines

It appeared the No. 7 Iowa Hawkeyes overlooked the 4-4 Hoosiers. Indiana built a 21-7 third quarter lead and was poised to break the game open inside Iowa’s five-yard line, but an Indiana pass was deflected several times into the hands of Iowa’s Tyler Sash, who returned the interception 86 yards for an Iowa touchdown, and the Hawkeyes never looked back.

VOLLEYBALL

Losing streak ends with lopsided sweep

For the first time in four weeks, the MSU volleyball team was able to walk off the court with heads held high — and they were able to do it twice. The Spartans swept their weekend series with wins against Iowa and Wisconsin, with 3-0 victories in both matches.

FOOTBALL

Spartans lose 2nd straight, 42-34 to Minnesota

It was a frightful night for the MSU football team at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday. In a Halloween matchup with Minnesota, the Spartans allowed more than 500 yards of total offense and allowed Minnesota to overcome a school-record 17 penalties in a 42-34 loss to the Golden Gophers.
