Coming off a weekend sweep at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, the MSU women’s soccer team (3-1-0) kept the momentum rolling in its second home matchup of the year with a 1-0 victory against in-state rival Oakland.
The No. 17 MSU football team has endured 25 straight practices, and senior quarterback Kirk Cousins said the Spartans are growing restless.

When head coach Mark Dantonio watched the MSU football team’s first jersey scrimmage of preseason camp on August 13, he thought the team’s overall conditioning and energy level needed to improve. When he saw the Spartans scrimmage for the second time Sunday, he saw those improvements on both sides of the field.
With her second-half break-away goal, senior forward Laura Heyboer became MSU’s all-time leading goal scorer and secured her place as one of the elite in the history of the program. Unfortunately for the Spartans, Heyboer’s record-setting goal and a late MSU rally wasn’t enough to overcome an early deficit, as they would fall to UW-Milwaukee, 3-2.
Offensive line coach Mark Staten said Monday that redshirt freshman Travis Jackson has played most of the repetitions as the No. 1 center. Not far behind, however, is junior Blake Treadwell, followed by fellow junior Ethan Ruhland and sophomore Nate Klatt.
