The 2007 MSU volleyball team went largely unnoticed throughout the regular season. They’ve done it again. One year after winning MSU’s first women’s cross country Big Ten title since 2001, the Spartans claimed their second straight conference championship Sunday in Urbana, Ill. Walt Drenth, director of MSU cross country and track and field, said the team was aiming to add another championship win to its résumé prior to this season. “As a group, they sat down together before the season started and talked about what they would like to accomplish,” Drenth said.
MSU men’s soccer team senior goalie Jeremy Clark was named Big Ten Defensive Co-Player of the Week by the conference. Ohio State goalie Matt Lampson shares the award with Clark. Clark made three saves in a 2-1 victory against Western Michigan on Wednesday in preparation for Sunday’s matchup with Michigan. The goalie made nine saves for the shutout against the Wolverines, including a five-shot flurry in the final five minutes of the game.
