Men's soccer earns fourth consecutive tournament bid

The Spartans (11-7-1) will host Oakland (7-10-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 1 p.m. Thursday at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field. This is MSU’s 14th appearance in the tournament, as the Spartans have compiled an all-time record of 17-10-4.

Thornton finds role in crowded backcourt

Austin Thornton came to MSU four years ago as a lights-out shooter. But in the three years since his redshirt season, head coach Tom Izzo said Thornton had yet to put that jumper on display. On Friday, Thornton found his stroke, going 3-for-5 from the field and making all four of his free throw attempts.

Spartans excited for rematch with U-M in Big Ten Tournament

After losing to their in-state rival for the first time in eight years, the MSU men’s soccer team will have a chance at redemption. With a bid to the NCAA Tournament possibly at stake, MSU (11-6-1 overall, 2-4-0 Big Ten) will play Michigan in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday in State College, Pa.

Spartans earn All-Big Ten honors

Women’s soccer junior forward Laura Heyboer and junior goalkeeper Jill Flietstra were awarded First Team All-Big Ten Conference honors for their performances on the pitch this season, the conference office announced Wednesday.
