Walt Drenth, director of MSU cross country and track and field, said the team was aiming to add another championship win to its résumé prior to this season. “As a group, they sat down together before the season started and talked about what they would like to accomplish,” Drenth said.
MSU men’s soccer team senior goalie Jeremy Clark was named Big Ten Defensive Co-Player of the Week by the conference. Ohio State goalie Matt Lampson shares the award with Clark. Clark made three saves in a 2-1 victory against Western Michigan on Wednesday in preparation for Sunday’s matchup with Michigan. The goalie made nine saves for the shutout against the Wolverines, including a five-shot flurry in the final five minutes of the game. Clark is second in the Big Ten with a .804 save percentage on the season.
Trying to put last season’s struggles it, the MSU men’s basketball team took the floor Sunday for the first time since March, when the Spartans dropped a 78-76 heartbreaker to UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. During an 85-58 trouncing of the Ferris State Bulldogs in an exhibition at Breslin Center on Sunday, the Spartans were able to get a feel for their team and fans were treated to a preview of what to expect come Nov.
