Former Spartans play charity soccer game

More than a dozen celebrities, including many former MSU athletes, took to the soccer field for a charity event at Grand Ledge High School in Grand Ledge, Mich., on Saturday for the first ever Kick for the House celebrity soccer game.

2011 Athletics Hall of Fame class named

On Thursday, Mateen Cleaves (men’s basketball), Morten Andersen (football), Dana Cooke (volleyball), Kisha (Kelley) Simpson (women’s basketball) and Charles McCaffree Jr. (swimming coach) were honored for their time in the Green and White as they were announced as the 2011 induction class of the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Pistons must pick a winner this time around

The time has come yet again for the Detroit Pistons to hire another head coach. After two lackluster seasons of leading a group of mismatched veteran players and misguided young talent, John Kuester was the latest to be fired in the Pistons’ semi-annual coaching carousel. Kuester finished with a record of 57-107 in his two seasons in Detroit and failed to make the postseason both years, the first time that has happened since the mid-90s.

When Jake Boss Jr. was hired in the summer of 2008 to replace former head coach David Grewe, he not only set out to raise the bar on expectations for the MSU baseball program but also to develop a style of play that allowed his team to be competitive on a consistent basis.
