Michigan State, the No. 9 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament, will battle No. 1 seed University of North Carolina for a spot in the Sweet 16. The matchup between the two college basketball powerhouses is fundamentally a home game for the Tar Heels, who will play just a few hours from home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hot off a win against the Ohio State Buckeyes to advance to the Big Ten championship game, the Michigan State Spartans step into unknown territory as they look for their first Big Ten Men's Hockey Tournament title in program history. Not only that, but the Spartans have the chance to do so against their in-state rival, the University of Michigan Wolverines.

MSU women's basketball falls to UNC 59-56 in nail-biting finish, out of March Madness after first round

The Michigan State women’s basketball team, making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2021, began March Madness with a battle against a University of North Carolina team in its fourth straight tournament appearance. Giving a fight until the very end, the Spartans came up just short and were ultimately defeated 59-56 in the first round of the tournament, sending head coach Robyn Fralick and the rest of the Spartans home to East Lansing.

The Spartans are still dancing. Michigan State men’s basketball opened up March Madness with a battle of the MSUs where the Spartans took down Mississippi State 69-51 to advance to the round of 32.

After missing the tournament for two straight years, the Spartans turned things around in head coach Robyn Fralick's first season with the team. Michigan State spent a lot of extra time during the preseason and throughout the regular season working on its craft, hoping that it would get them to the “final chapter,” as Fralick calls it. Now, the Spartans packed their bags and are headed out to Columbia, South Carolina in preparation to face off against No. 8 seed University of North Carolina.

MSU women's basketball earns 9-seed in NCAA Tournament, will play 8-seed University of North Carolina

Michigan State's women's basketball was selected as a 9-seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament's Albany 1 Region, entering the tournament for the first time since 2021 when the Spartans lost to Iowa State in the first round.

As the fans poured in, and the "Go Green, Go White" chants rang out throughout Munn Ice Arena before puck drop was even underway, the Spartans were ready to take the ice. After a hard-fought 60 minutes, the Spartans skated away with an intense 2-1 win, playing tough defense, breaking up Ohio State passes and connecting passes to control a majority of the game.

With an opportunity to host their very first Big Ten semifinal game, the Michigan State Spartans came into the game with one goal: win. With a crowd that has buzzed consistently the entire season and a playoff atmosphere ringing through Munn, the Spartans held on to a 2-1 lead and a win to head to the Big Ten championship game.

The Spartans now prepare to take on the No. 7 seed Ohio State University, a team that's been hot as they took down the No. 2 seed Wisconsin Badgers in a three-game series.

MSU men's basketball falls to No. 1 Purdue at Big Ten Tournament, 67-62

The Spartans fell 67-62 to the 1-seed Boilermakers at the Big Ten Tournament on Friday, sending head coach Tom Izzo and his team home to East Lansing for the rest of the weekend. MSU clawed and fought its way through the game – even out-rebounding the paint-dominating Boilermakers – but came up short in crunch time.

MSU men's basketball earns several individual Big Ten honors

Michigan State men's basketball's Tyson Walker was voted to the All-Big Ten Second Team by the coaches and media for the second straight season. Walker averaged 18.4 points per game in 30 games this season while shooting 45% from the field and 37% from three-point range. Through 14 games, he averaged over 20 points per game on 45% shooting from deep. A.J. Hoggard and Malik Hall earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors. Hall averaged 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season and Hoggard averaged 11 points and five assists per game.
