Field hockey looking for offensive production this weekend

Helen Knull’s squad is coming off a tough 2-0 loss to then-No. 7 Michigan, in which the Spartans (7-10 overall, 1-4 Big Ten) were unable to get off a single shot in 70 minutes of play. Knull said the team’s performance showed some weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball, which the team has been working to improve this past week.

VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball beats Indiana in 4 sets

For the ninth straight meeting between the MSU volleyball team and the Indiana Hoosiers, the match went beyond three sets. And for the second time this season, the Spartans (17-6 overall, 7-6 Big Ten) toppled the Hoosiers, 3-1.

FOOTBALL

Spartans do just enough to top Wisconsin

The No. 9 MSU football team didn’t take it to the media and fight back after accusations of being a dirty team. The Spartans didn’t complain about getting completely disrespected by the national media, who proclaimed Wisconsin “unbeatable.”

VOLLEYBALL

Moster earns two weekly conference awards

For the second time this season, MSU volleyball freshman libero Kori Moster earned conference weekly honors, being named Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week and co-Defensive Player of the Week after her performances in two games against ranked opponents.

ICE HOCKEY

Hockey goes 1-1 against OSU

The MSU hockey team did its best Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde impression in its two-game series against Ohio State late last week. In the regular season home opener at Munn Ice Arena on Thursday, the Spartans rode the strong play of senior goalkeeper Drew Palmisano to down Ohio State, 3-0.

SOCCER

Women's soccer scores Senior Day victory

It was only fitting for a pair of seniors to send the MSU women’s soccer team out with a win on Senior Day. Following a 3-1 defeat Friday at the hands of Penn State, the Spartans turned around and got goals from forwards Hannah Peterson and Laura Heyboer to dominate Ohio State and come away with the 2-0 victory at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field. With the win, the Spartans clinch their spot in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held on Nov.

FOOTBALL

GameDay atmosphere adds to exciting Saturday

Joe Arbow thinks there was a special force driving the MSU football win against Wisconsin on Saturday. The finance junior said the presence of ESPN’s College GameDay in East Lansing added some extra hype for both the players and the fans. “(GameDay) will give us great momentum going in,” Arbow said before the game.
