MSU finally finds ANGEL replacement
Following years of deliberation and searching and students’ continued technological problems, MSU has finally chosen a new learning management system, or LMS, to replace the nearly obsolete ANGEL.

Campus and East Lansing often play host to a barrage of summer camps and conferences during the summer. Sports camps, leadership summits and youth groups from all over the state and the nation come to MSU’s world-class facilities to utilize the mostly vacant student housing during the hottest parts of the year.
The Office of Study Abroad reports that close to 3,000 students travel overseas each year on university-sponsored programs. This does not surprise me. Everyone and his or her brother, it seems, has been across the ocean at least once this summer, and they all have the Facebook photos to prove it. My friends have been checking in from all corners of the globe — so many places that I can’t even keep track.
Technology continues to advance the lives of citizens around the world as continual innovation and new ideas help shape day-to-day routines.
As the nation reels from the massacre in Aurora, Colo., the debate over gun control has once again reared its ugly head. Rather than have an unwinnable debate about our right to bear arms, we should have a more productive discussion on human nature — a much more unchanging topic, but one that dictates everything society has to offer.
The Olympic Games are an event every two years that helps to unite countries from across the world. Although conflicts continue to occur among countries, athletes are given the chance to put these differences aside for a couple of weeks and unite in a competitive atmosphere while representing their homelands.
If you watched the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremonies, you likely noticed the group of three athletes dancing their way around the stadium.
The cost of attending college has risen for the past several years, and many students have a hard time grasping the effects of student loans and comparing the many costs of higher education.
I come from an exceedingly frugal family. My parents decided at a young age that instead of taking lavish vacations, they would rather pay for me to go to college debt-free. Although when I was younger I was angry when spring break would come around and I would be home alone while others were on vacation, I appreciate it now more than ever.

In an unprecedented decision, the NCAA decided Monday morning to hit Penn State University, or PSU, with a number of sanctions and bans.
The last month or so has been entertaining for me. Let me explain. About eight months ago, after I’d applied to work at The State News and was not immediately hired, I decided to join the staff of a website that covered the Chicago Bulls.
I love food. Pure and simple. Any place, any time you put some grub in front of me and you best believe I’m taking care of it. I’m the president of the clean-plate club. A human garbage disposal.
There is a consensus in the scientific community that global climate change is occurring due to the burning of fossil fuels by automobiles and factories. In an attempt to avoid adding to the problem, MSU is looking for alternative, renewable energy sources to reduce its carbon footprint.
I think it’s great someone is promoting more volunteerism on the part of MSU students. We need to be more than just consumers, but also contributors to Greater Lansing. There should be compassion toward others and people should seek to serve, in tangible ways, those in less fortunate circumstances, often through little to no fault of their own.
Election law is boring. There’s really no way around that fact. It doesn’t boast the furor and excitement that surround political issues such as gay marriage, abortion, gun regulation or even taxation mainly because it’s not easy to classify positions on election law into a form that can be ragefully shouted or quaintly packaged onto a placard at a rally.
The tragic event that unfolded last week in Aurora, Colo., left many harmed both mentally and physically.
I’m going to try to make this column as far from sounding self-righteous as possible because it’s not about being a better person than someone else, it’s about having a little bit of humanity, sharing kindness with others in your community and being open to new experiences.
With empty storefronts and vacant buildings littering downtown East Lansing, it’s no secret that part of the city lacks any real liveliness that most downtown areas pride themselves on. Then again, it’s clear East Lansing is far from the average city. Most college towns in the U.S.
Atticus Finch said you never know a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. Other people say it takes much more than a mile. I’m assuming none of us have walked a mile in Jerry Sandusky’s shoes, and if I had, I know mine wouldn’t have led me near any underage boys — hopefully, neither would yours.
