I love this school, and I consider it my new home. And it’s for that reason I feel a responsibility to pressure the university to make the choices that it needs to make in order to make this campus healthier and stronger in the future.
A teen in Alabama recently was suspended for having too “skimpy” of a prom dress. Initially, this seems like a typical story and a common occurrence in the springtime when eager high school students cast away their pants and coats for shorter, more season-savvy choices. Yet the striking thing in this story is the punishment offered for the crime.
Once composed of mostly men, veterinary education now is nationally dominated by women. However, this reversal of gender dominance in the field is a general trend. Before the 1980s, veterinary classes at MSU were composed of mostly male students.

A group might not act on a threat, but law enforcement should act like the threats are real to ensure everybody’s safety.

I’m finding myself more distracted this Holy Week than in years past — and it’s not just because of the basketball game. For the past few weeks, my church — the Catholic Church — has been going through a crucible of criticism. More information is coming to light about the terrible acts of sexual abuse committed by the Catholic clergy, and this time, people are calling for the pope’s head.
MSU students will again be voting in 2010 — this time probably less enthusiastically than in 2008, when students overwhelmingly supported Barack Obama, the candidate of “hope and change.”
One of the largest problems in the United States, and the next issue MSU should tackle aggressively, is food waste. The amount of food wasted every day and thrown away in the cafeterias is huge — there’s no denying that. Although the food is unlikely to go to another hungry resident of the world, it’s a huge economic waste and loss of natural resources that could be used more productively.
The passing of this legislation is a sign the government is heading in the right direction to increase the number of college graduates. The new law will allow students easier, more direct funding for college. The government is cutting out what seems like an unnecessary middleman in the form of private loan companies, which might look to make money off of students and add unneeded red tape to the lending process.
