'Scammers' use charities' names to solicit money

Prenursing sophomore Jen Ung was surprised by the suspicious man who knocked on her door Wednesday afternoon in Abbot Hall asking for donations to his church. “He had one tooth and just looked really sketchy,” Ung said. “He gave this whole speech about his church that he was raising money for. … It kind of sounded like a scam.”

New Lamprey control method

Star-crossed sea lampreys might soon have a serious case of heartbreak. Researchers Weiming Li and Nicholas Johnson and their team have found a way to synthesize the pheromone, or chemical, that attracts female lampreys to male lampreys. They hope to use it to lure the females into traps to help control the lamprey population, Johnson said.

Campus safety concerns students, officers after 2 assaults

Two sexual assaults in two days are causing concern among law enforcement officers and students as police search for suspects in the crimes. After a student reported being sexually assaulted Tuesday afternoon while walking along Hagadorn Road near Hubbard Hall, another assault was reported to MSU police Wednesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

MSU cautions by pulling peanut butter from campus

An important part of Rosetta Sloan’s diet has disappeared from MSU cafeterias. Sloan, who avoids eating meat when possible, is searching for other sources of protein this week after the university pulled peanut butter products in precaution of a nationwide salmonella outbreak.

E.L. Society shows ‘Frozen River’
