Red Cedar River narrowly avoids flood

Just last May, the river crested its banks at 7.33 feet, flooding much of the DeMartin Soccer Stadium and only portions of the McClane Baseball Stadium and the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden. The year before, it was half a foot higher, rendering parts of the river trail totally impassable.

Ten years later, no signs of stopping

Lou Anna K. Simon took over the reins as MSU's 20th and first female president in 2005. Simon, whose tenure has been marked with initiatives and an overhaul of many of the residence and dining halls, is still going strong.

Gas line ruptures at Cyclotron construction site

The Veterinary Medical Center was evacuated Wednesday afternoon for a gas leak. MSU police have blocked off Wilson Road near Bogue Street while the fire department investigates. An MSU alert said the Cyclotron was the only building evacuated, conflicted with reports on the ground, but students are being told to "avoid the area." WLNS reported that traffic was being diverted from a half-mile radius, but that has not been confirmed.   Stay tuned for more information.
