As decisions are made, Beauchamp said the task force will continue monitoring COVID-19 case trends locally and statewide, the availability of personal protection equipment, the ability to test and protect individuals, as well as communication with local health care systems to ensure the ability to take care of faculty, staff and students, among other factors.

EL City Council grants mayor power to limit public gatherings, discusses COVID-19 response

East Lansing City Council passed Ordinance 1488 on Tuesday granting the mayor the power to limit public gatherings in the event of a state of emergency. Among discussions, council invited community members from local restaurants, the health department, MSU and city staff to discuss how to keep businesses running and health a priority as students return to campus in the midst of a pandemic.
