“Safety is the most important thing, in the summer we were debating having it online or having it in-person, ultimately we made the call to have it online because that was the safest option,” student director Jay Gooden said. “If I have to sacrifice attendance a little to keep people safe, that’s what we have to do.”

Community members will be required to participate in a health screening and wear face coverings within the facility upon reopening. However, face coverings will not be required when swimming or in locker room showers. Temperatures will also be taken during the health screening.
The quarantined properties include 23 fraternity and sorority houses and seven large rental houses.

Despite the ramifications for political campaigns dependent on college voters, Slotkin, who is seeking re-election against Paul Junge, said MSU President Samuel L. Stanley's move to online learning was the right decision.
“I recognize the unfortunate impact on the Nisbet family but our decision is not about Mr. Nisbet’s family or even his contributions to educational, public or corporate life in Michigan," MSU President Samuel L. Former MSU Police Deputy Chief Valerie O'Brien, who was placed on administrative leave with her husband and former MSU PD detective JJ Bradac in 2019, has returned after more than a year. Her husband, Bradac, is no longer employed by MSU or the department.

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor announced on Sept. 8 that the Lansing City Market will become the Lansing Shuffleboard & Social Club, with an opening planned for Spring or Summer of 2022.

Seventeen fraternities voted in favor of the moratorium. The vote, which took place in August, needed 19 votes to pass. According to a letter from MSU Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life Guillermo Flores, 11 MSU fraternities voted against a temporary prohibition of certain social events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think it's went well, I've done this in-person and there's obviously been less people joining, but I was surprised by the amount, I thought it'd be less,” Psi Upsilon member Matthew Hankey said.
