Students hold march, rally in wake of election results

MSU College Democrats held a "Rally Against Hate, Bigotry, Racism and Sexism" that began on MSU's campus. The protest size grew exponentially and began to march down Grand River Avenue. Protesters have split up, one group remains inside the Union and the other is currently to the Capitol. Stay with The State News for updates.

University hosts 'Day After' event in response to election result

Wednesday night, students, faculty and community members gathered in the Business Complex for an event called “The Day After.” This event provided an inclusive space where members of the community could reflect on the election and voice their thoughts. The first hour of The Day After included asking a panel of alumni questions about where the country is headed and what can be done in response.

ASMSU president reaches out to students following election

The president of the Associated Students of Michigan State University, or ASMSU, Lorenzo Santavicca, reached out to undergraduate students via email and Twitter in an effort to let them know that he and ASMSU leadership are available to listen and empathize with students following Election Day.

Broad Art Museum hosts exhibit for the centenary of Easter Rising

“Now and in time to be, Wherever green is worn, Are changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born,” Irish poet W.B. Yeats wrote of the 1916 Easter Rising. The Easter Rising was a rebellion by Irish nationalists against British rule with the hope of establishing an independent nation. Though the uprising lasted only six days, it changed Ireland’s course for the 20th century.

Comparative cultures and politics junior Amber Applewhite is feeling pretty fortunate. On Nov. 1, in a College Week episode of “Wheel of Fortune,” Applewhite represented MSU and walked away victorious, winning a trip to Barbados and a cash prize.

CRU organized protest for Trump Jr. speech, make voices heard

Students from the Culturas de las Razas Unidas, or CRU, organized a protest to oppose Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to MSU and his father, Donald Trump's, stances. The protest included students and local residents. The protest was a non-violent, non-partisan protest that grew increasingly stronger during the course of the event as participants grew louder and chanted. Chants included “Love, not hate,” “Black Lives Matter” and “We will not be silenced” among many others.

Trump Jr. delivers speech at the Union

As throngs of people chanted outside the Union Ballroom on Nov. 2 in protest, Donald Trump Jr. delivered a stump speech on behalf of his father, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Trump Jr.’s visit to Michigan follows an appearance by his father in Grand Rapids, and is one of several by the Trump family slated for this week. Trump Jr’s brother Eric and sister Ivanka, as well as Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), will also make appearances throughout the state.

Cher stumps for Hillary at the Union

Pop musician Cher spoke at Union Ballroom this afternoon in support of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's presidential bid. Cher is currently traveling across the country to speak and fundraise on Clinton's behalf.
