The CDO role will fill the duties of the previous senior advisor to the president for diversity, but at the level of vice president for the first time in the university's history.

President Abii-Tah Bih provided an update that recommendations for the spring semester from the Academic Calendar Task Force were made to President Samuel L. Stanley. The recommendations were made based on a survey open to the MSU community. The committee is still meeting, and these suggestions are not final decisions, just recommendations. The initial suggestions are as follows.
“This is entirely personal for me and for many of the people on the leadership team, so we don’t take any of these decisions lightly,” Senior Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises Vennie Gore said. “We don’t believe that our staff are expendable. But in the end, if I’m not collecting enough money I can’t pay you.”
MSU College of Human Medicine’s Department of Translational Neuroscience Chair Jack Lipton said it appears they have been able to catch positive COVID-19 cases in the very early phases using the MSU early detection program. Currently, 75% of samples are focused on the spread of COVID-19 among asymptomatic students.
Mosallam's first eight-year term with the Board of Trustees began Jan. 1, 2012. He is the only incumbent seeking reelection.
Candidates from the College of Social Science, College of Arts and Letters and College of Communication Arts and Sciences discussed issues such as the return to campus, university transparency and the pass/fail option.
Residential and Hospitality Services announced that they will be holding a town hall for furloughed student workers.
The Spartan Solidarity Network started a petition Tuesday, Sept. 29, following a listening session that occurred Sept. 25. The petition includes a list of eight demands of the university.

Trustee Brianna Scott answered questions regarding tuition rates, teaching policies, international student inclusion, the spring semester and football.
"I usually would rely on that job to pay my rent and pay for my groceries," English senior Carly Lize said. "I work another job on campus, but luckily that one was okay. I needed both jobs to be able to make rent, so I was panicked at first."
The DHS proposal said applications for extensions of stay could be approved if "additional time needed is due to a compelling academic reason, documented medical illness or medical condition, or circumstance that was beyond the student’s control."
JMC Student Senate released a statement condemning RHS for furloughing its student employees and demanded the university to rehire all of the employees affected, as well as formally apologize to them. The Senate received support from 14 other student organizations.
JMC Student Senate will release a statement of condemnation Friday against recent Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) action to furlough over 700 students. The Senate already has signatures from 13 student organizations in support.

Michigan State Residential and Hospitality Services notified student employees Monday that they would be placed on a leave beginning Oct. 4, according to a letter from RHS Human Resources. This notification was sent out to more than 700 RHS student team members, according to RHS Chief Communications Officer Kat Cooper, giving those furloughed a short 12-day notice.
ASMSU is holding a special fall election to fill vacant seats. With the announcement of the new candidates, there will still be vacancies in multiple colleges.
