EL City Council discusses police realignment progress
City Manager George Lahanas presented a plan of realignment of the ELPD during a City Council meeting in July 2020. The document suggested changes in several areas, including staffing and adding alternative positions like social workers. The Tuesday meeting touched on the progress made in these areas, as well as the shortcomings in others.

Former MSUPD captain charged with carrying a gun, driving while intoxicated
Valerie O'Brien has been charged with an OWI, operating while intoxicated and was arrested on Feb. 10. As a detective, O'Brien was involved in a 2014 Title IX investigation into now convicted ex-MSU doctor Larry Nassar's sexual abuse.

The Greater Lansing Democratic Socialists for America (DSA) organized the demonstration to show solidarity with Palestinians and to encourage Slotkin to vote for House Resolution 2590, a house resolution conditioning U.S. aid to Israel, Alexander Sahouri, one of the organizers of the event, said.

Sparrow begins vaccinating 12 to 15-year-olds following government approval
Evan Yaney, a 13-year-old Grand Ledge resident, was one of the first children to receive the vaccine through Sparrow this morning. Evan was diagnosed with leukemia at two years old and battled against it until he was seven, according to his dad, Kent. Evan was Sparrow’s Miracle Child in 2012.
