Futures for Frontliners, the first program of its kind in the nation, provides those who have worked the front lines throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the ability to earn free college credit at any of the state’s 28 public community colleges.
With 124 cases connected to MSU students, Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail warns continuing to party will see a rise in deaths for the older population in November and December.
“The broad goals that I think would be areas that should receive keen focus are ... to support the retention and promote the success of members of underrepresented groups; to enhance the overall living, learning and working experience of members of the Spartan community; and to booster outreach engagement in economic development throughout the state of Michigan and beyond," Jabbar Bennett said.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor announced on Sept. 8 that the Lansing City Market will become the Lansing Shuffleboard & Social Club, with an opening planned for Spring or Summer of 2022.
Bennett currently works as the associate provost, inclusion and chief diversity officer at Northwestern university. Before that he was the associate dean, recruiting and professional development at Brown University’s graduate school.
Seventeen fraternities voted in favor of the moratorium. The vote, which took place in August, needed 19 votes to pass. Director of Communications and Marketing for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Eileen Gianiodis said this decision comes as a result of business and economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. With MSU moving to remote learning for the fall, Gianiodis said they realized sales would only continue to decline.
"In actuality, MSU doesn’t have any sort of obligation to help us," Chase Maples said. "We are the ones who signed contracts, right, we are the ones who signed the leases. But on the other hand, we also had signed that not expecting there was going to be a global pandemic, expecting that we were going to be going to go to school full-time with in person teaching."
