MSU's PRSSA advocates against book bans

Michigan State University public relations students are working with EveryLibrary through the Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) Bateman Team to promote banned books and advocate against policies that can harm public and school libraries through engaging with state legislatures. They will hold a tabling event on Feb. 21 from noon to 3 p.m. at the MSU library and a discussion panel on Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Union, where they can talk more about the importance of at-risk books.

MSU scientists contribute to discovery and classification of new truffle species

The truffles — a type of fungi found across the globe and revered as rare culinary delicacies — have since been studied by researchers hoping to unlock their mysteries. By analyzing their DNA and the particular aromas that make these new truffles uniquely appealing, scientists have classified the truffles and determined their culinary value, something they hope opens doors to cultivating more.

Open Mic Night showcases student talents

On Monday evening, performers and guests alike attended Open Mic Night at the MSU Union. Hosted by MSU’s UAB, Open Mic Night encouraged students to showcase their talents to the audience. These performances included students singing their original pieces, performing covers and delivering standup comedy.

MSU welcomes International Students Association headquarters

The international community at Michigan State University marked years of persistence and hard work when the International Students Association headquarters held its grand opening Friday. The headquarters, located on the bottom floor of the International Center across from the Spartan Bookstore, will serve as a space for international students and organizations to gather.

MSU UAB hosts Lunar New Year celebration

On Thursday, Jan. 30, guests gathered at the MSU Union to attend the "Moon & Mingle: Lunar New Year Celebration." Hosted by MSU’s UAB, attendees were encouraged to celebrate by creating cultural crafts, trying new food and watching "Crazy Rich Asians."

Time For Three, Okemos High School students perform at Wharton Center

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, Michigan State University’s Wharton Center for Performing Arts welcomed a Grammy and Emmy-winning ensemble Time For Three. The ensemble combined different genres of music and instruments, along with a hint of comedy, to deliver a performance that left audience members with an experience to remember. The show also featured student musicians from Okemos High School.
