Results from May 5 election: No to tax hike, yes to marijuana decriminalization

After the last ballot was counted Tuesday night, voters had struck down one state proposal and voted yes to two local ones. State Proposal 15-1, which would have increased sales tax and others to fix roads, was defeated by Michigan voters. Local Proposals 1 and 2 were both accepted by voters. Prop 1 will decriminalize marijuana possession in East Lansing. Prop 2 will allow to City Council to sell property with a simple majority vote from citizens as opposed to the current 60 percent super majority requirement.

ASMSU urges Michigan Senate to reconsider $500K cut to sexual assault investigation funding

After the Michigan Senate quietly removed a budget provision allocating $500,000 for the Michigan State Police to help with investigating sexual assault claims on college campuses, ASMSU plans to have a letter on the desks of Michigan Senators tomorrow urging them to reconsider. The Senate is set to vote on the budget provision tomorrow, which the Michigan State House approved, ASMSU's Vice President for Governmental Affairs Bryn Williams said.

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market fills in old Goodrich's spot

As of 7 a.m. on Wednsday morning, East Lansing is home to a new organic grocery store — Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market. Located at 904 Trowbridge Road, west of Harrison, the new Fresh Thyme is part of a chain that seeks to bring affordable fresh foods to the Midwest region.

RCAHppella #TBT show to take place Thursday

By Ryan Squanda rsquanda@statenews.com Arts and humanities senior Becky Barron and the rest of RCAHppella — an a cappella group within MSU's College of Arts and Humanities — were just thinking of a theme for their final concert of the semester. So when Barron got to thinking about how 1) RCAHppella always uses social media to promote their events, 2) They wanted to do a concert that showcased some oldies and 3) Their concerts always take place on Thursdays, it didn't take long for her to suggest a #TBT themed concert to be set in place for Thursday, April 30 at 8 p.m.
