JMC Student Senate will release a statement of condemnation Friday against recent Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) action to furlough over 700 students. The Senate already has signatures from 13 student organizations in support.

Michigan State Residential and Hospitality Services notified student employees Monday that they would be placed on a leave beginning Oct. 4, according to a letter from RHS Human Resources. This notification was sent out to more than 700 RHS student team members, according to RHS Chief Communications Officer Kat Cooper, giving those furloughed a short 12-day notice.

President of the MSU Beta Zeta Chapter of Theta Chi Ryan Welch said he and other fraternity presidents were “blindsided” by the health department’s order to quarantine. Welch said the fraternities were notified by an email from Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail.
“I felt really active and got angry one day, so I kind of started typing out this petition," Doctor of veterinary medicine third-year Nate Vandentop said.
A total of 39 properties are now under quarantine, including 25 fraternity and sorority houses, and 14 large rental houses.
