Liberate MSU stages protest during game against Maryland

Students from the National Student Activist Party affiliated Liberate MSU movement protested at the MSU vs. Maryland Men's Basketball game. The protest centered on Liberate MSU’s list of demands previously presented to the MSU administration. However the protest was also more general in focus.

3 Spartans to play in East-West Shrine football game

The 91st annual East-West shrine game will showcase the final collegiate action of numerous college seniors, including three Spartans. Offensive lineman Donovan Clark, outside linebacker Darien Harris, and safety R.J. Williamson will all take part in the festivities at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, Fla.

LGBT groups hosting "The Come Out" at the Avenue Cafe

Humans Uniting for an Equal Society, or HUES, Lansing Association for Human Rights, or LAHR, and the Alliance of Queer and Ally Students at Michigan State is hosting “The Come Out” tomorrow at The Avenue Cafe, 2021 E Michigan Ave., in Lansing beginning at 7 p.m. on Jan. 22.

Mark Viele, the man behind the mop

When the MSU basketball team goes into the locker rooms for halftime at Breslin Center, that’s when the stage is set for 60-year-old Mark Viele and his mop. It was more than 40 years ago that Viele, a native of Lansing, got a job at MSU as soon as he got out of high school, and for the better part of the last 20 years, Viele has worked for MSU Athletics, where he sets up and takes down the athletic venues for every MSU sport except hockey.
