MSU baseball, Hughes looking toward Big Ten play as season heats up

Coming off a 3-2 loss to Western Michigan on Tuesday, the MSU baseball team currently sits at 15-6 on the season. Junior outfielder Brandon Hughes, who hit four home runs in the Spartans’ three-game series sweep of Illinois last weekend, including three in the third game of the series, was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week and also a USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week as a result of his dominant performance. The junior from Sterling Heights, Mich.

Student uses jazz to give back to Lansing

Jazz studies major Dakota Peterson has been playing the drums for a little over eight years. Peterson doesn’t just play for a hobby but rather she plays in multiple groups and uses her skills to raise money for different organizations around Lansing. The senior is involved with a group named SHRIMP which stands of Solidarity Helps Raise Impoverished and Marginalized People.

Co-op member starts green energy project to make homes more efficient

MSU Student Housing Cooperative practices the idea of cooperative living throughout its 15 houses across the East Lansing area and consists of approximately 240 members. One of its main goals is to provide sustainable living for all its members and making their homes efficient by going 100 percent carbon free through electricity usage. One co-op member wanted to start that pushing that goal harder, so he created the Green Energy Initiative Project.

MSU Ultimate Frisbee teams' play style dependent on players

In major college sports such as basketball and football, the atmosphere with fans in the stadium and tailgating beforehand, is what draws fans to watch MSU athletics. For the players, it’s the atmosphere within the locker room and going to war with your teammates against your opponent. For the players of the men and women MSU Ultimate Frisbee teams, the friendly atmosphere on the field between both teams is what separates ultimate frisbee from the rest of the pack. “I do like that aspect of ‘Hey, we hate these guys guts (so) let’s tear them up,’” supply chain management senior Charles Robertson said.

'It's On Us' week proved successful for ASMSU and other orgs involved

This is the first time MSU has changed its direction with the "It's On Us" national campaign by organizing a whole week of events to raise sexual harassment and sexual violence awareness.  “The goal of our week of action is really to engage individuals who may not of attended programs and events before, may not of been aware of this issue and its impact of the community, or may not of known how they can individually get involved in efforts to prevent sexual violence," Title IX Coordinator Jessica Norris said.

MSU baseball's Kelley, Hughes earn conference, national honors

After a 4-0 week for MSU baseball, two Spartans received honors for their contributions throughout the week. Junior outfielder Brandon Hughes collected two national honors after a breakout performance against Illinois on Sunday, belting three home runs. Freshman outfielder and left-hander Bryce Kelley also received his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor.
