Felton Davis has career day in 17-10 win over Iowa

Entering the 2017 season, wide receiver Felton Davis III had played a minimal role in the Spartans’ offense in his first two seasons in East Lansing.  After several key departures over the past two seasons at the wideout position, Davis finally saw his chance to step up.

Spartans deliver '12th round' win in gritty showdown vs. Iowa

The Spartans knew what type of team the Iowa Hawkeyes were ahead of their Big Ten showdown — tough, gritty, physical; a game bound to be a defensive struggle. So the night before, the team watched the last fight scene of the movie “Southpaw.” Head coach Mark Dantonio told his team the game will be similar to a 12-round fight. As senior linebacker Chris Frey described it, he said it was like going to "war."

Pavelek, Minney and Khodorenko "excited" to be reunited with Cole

For seniors forward Dylan Pavelek, goaltender Ed Minney, and sophomore forward Patrick Khodorenko, this is not their first time playing underneath new head coach Danton Cole.  All three players played for USA National Team Development Program during the time under Cole. For Minney, playing under his former coach brings in new opportunities for this team.

Spartan hockey players spent the summer working out with NHL Teams

Over the summer, defenseman Zach Osburn, forward Taro Hirose and defenseman Mitch Eliot all participated in NHL development camps. As for sophomore forward Patrick Khodorenko, he represented Team U.S.A in the World Junior Summer Showcase.  “It was fun,” Osburn said. “Going into it I was pretty nervous to be with all those really good players and skilled players. It almost was a little intimidating, but when I was there you kinda realize, you know what these guys are good, but I feel pretty good too.”
