Icers keep win streak going

South Bend, Ind. - It wasn't easy, but the Spartan hockey team scratched out its sixth straight victory with a 2-1 decision over Notre Dame on Friday night at the Joyce Center.Sophomore goaltender Matt Migliaccio was superb for MSU (14-9-1 overall, 10-6-0 CCHA), turning away 40 shots, including 19 in a hectic third period.The Fighting Irish (9-12-4, 7-9-1) hounded the Spartans in the third, keeping the puck in the MSU zone for most of the frame.

Student contracts meningitis-like disease

A female MSU student has been diagnosed with meningococcemia, a disease similar to bacterial meningitis, university officials confirmed Friday. The disease is a "very grave" illness, MSU spokeswoman Deb Pozega Osburn said.

'U' switches online program

Students and professors who use the course management system Blackboard will notice a change after MSU announced Tuesday it will switch to a new program. ANGEL, or A New Global Environment for Learning, is similar in appearance and will provide many of the same services as the 4.0 version of Blackboard MSU uses. "Version 4.0 reached the point where we couldn't make it hold as many users as MSU needed," said David Gift, vice provost for libraries, computing and technology.

RHA movie budget not overspent

MSU's Residence Halls Association said Thursday the 2001-02 movie budget was never overspent. "The RHA administration told the general assembly that they were going over budget," said Brian Winters, the association's public relations director.

Student thought illness was flu; roommate reacts

While her roommate is being treated in Sparrow Hospital for a meningitis-like disease, the journalism sophomore shook her head in disbelief as she told The State News on Friday illness had invaded her roommate's body.She thought it was the flu.Thursday morning, the woman went to Olin Health Center and was immediately sent to Lansing's Sparrow Hospital.

Team seeks victory over revenge-minded Indiana

Eight days after the MSU women's basketball team wiped the floor with Indiana at Breslin Center, the Spartans will try to complete a regular-season sweep. In the last meeting, the Spartans (9-7 overall, 2-3 Big Ten) came away with a 70-44 victory over the Hoosiers (9-6, 2-3). But sophomore guard Kristin Haynie said she knows some things will be different when the Hoosiers have home-court advantage.

Women invited to celebrate sex

Women love sex as much as men do and shouldn't be afraid to admit it, say the organizers of tonight's celebration "Women, Sex, & Music." The free event at the Union will feature local estrogenic entertainment and offer information on women's health issues, focusing on increasing sexual pleasure. The event is part of Women's Healthy Sexuality Month and is the brainchild of both Olin Health Center and the University Activities Board. "We're trying to raise awareness of the benefits of becoming a sexually aware woman," said Amber Wilson, an interdisciplinary studies in social science senior.
