Write-in student candidates battle council incumbents

East Lansing residents will head to the polls today to vote for East Lansing City Council members and a charter amendment to eliminate the local primary election.Mayor Mark Meadows, Mayor Pro Tem Sam Singh and Councilmember Beverly Baten are running for re-election for the city council seats.

By taking time to listen to student concerns, Trustee David Porteous has made positive progress toward improving the relationship between students and administrators. The more the administration hears from students, the more it will learn about the issues students face. Porteous met Friday with a newly formed student committee.

The $930 million scientific project MSU is vying for is a top contender to be named one of the country's most important projects for the next 20 years, an MSU official said.Howard Gobstein, associate vice president of governmental affairs, said the Rare Isotope Accelerator, or RIA, will be named as a high-priority project by the U.S.

Police investigate 2 armed robberies on campus, in city

A 22-year-old MSU student was robbed at knifepoint as he walked along the Red Cedar River trail near Shaw Hall early Friday, MSU police said. The attack was the third aggressive theft last week and the most recent in a string of violent robberies in the city and campus this fall. The student, who was not injured, told police he was walking westbound at 12:25 a.m.
