ASMSU has questions they want answered about the proposed new residential college. To voice its concerns and get answers, the Academic Assembly of MSU's undergraduate student government passed a bill Tuesday night listing unresolved issues with the proposed college, tentatively named the Nelson Mandela College. The bill calls for a letter to be sent to Marcellette Williams, chairwoman of the New Residential College Program Planning Group and President-designate Lou Anna Simon.

Rather than walking from class to class, Danielle Cole made her way around campus Tuesday in a wheelchair. Cole, a special education in learning disabilities sophomore, was participating in an all-day simulation Tuesday for an assignment which required her to use a wheelchair for one day in order to understand the issue of accessibility. The simulation was one of the activities offered during the second annual Accessibility Awareness Week at MSU. Cole said not only did she notice inaccessibility issues, but also the reactions of those around her. "They either look very intensely at you or they try not to make any eye contact at all," she said.

With 10 sexual assaults already reported on campus this semester, university officials announced Wednesday several new committees to help students avoid, learn and report sexual assaults. Most of the current efforts are "behind the scenes" with administrators, faculty and several students, said Lee June, vice president for Student Affairs and Services, although a student meeting in Holden Hall with the hall director was held Wednesday night. At the meeting, hall residents talked with complex director Joshua Gillespie to generate discussion on the assaults and possible future action. Holden Hall was the site of the campus' two most recent sexual assaults, reported earlier this week. Some of MSU's top officials met to discuss the assaults Tuesday.

MSU junior center Paul Davis learned to love during the summer. "He told me that he's here to learn how to love the game, instead of liking (it) like most guys do," MSU head coach Tom Izzo said at the men's basketball media day on Wednesday. Izzo added that Davis' new-found love for the game started showing through his summer work ethic and schedule. "They both did a very good job, and it was entertaining at some points," said advertising junior Crystal Eddins, adding that the emotion and passion conveyed by both candidates was impressive. But the majority of the panel agreed that the debates would not largely impact the minds of most voters. To encourage young people to stay away from sex until marriage, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave the Ingham County Health Department a $277,000 grant for abstinence education. Sporting Spartan logos, green and white stripes and blaring the MSU fight song, the Cheat to Win (CTWz) van drives into campus, making its way toward tailgate utopia. Customized last summer, the CTWz's nine owners said the van was created to maximize the tailgating experience and embody the Spartan spirit. A labor of love, the van took nearly four months to complete. "We finally found a van in early spring that we could afford," said Brian Dennis, one of the van's co-owners.

A second MSU student reported being sexually assaulted in or near Holden Hall, police reported Tuesday. An 18-year-old student told police she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in her Holden Hall room on Monday afternoon, MSU police reported. It is the second sexual assault to occur in or just outside the hall within two days.
