WEB ONLY: Restaurant displays 'great divide' between 'U,' U-M

Just off of Interstate 96, marking the halfway point between perhaps the state's biggest rivals, there is the little town of Fowlerville. On the south-bound side is a small restaurant and gas station that houses the intense conflict between MSU and the University of Michigan. The entrance of the Fowlerville Farms Family Restaurant leads into a large gift shop, which takes up more than a third of the building.

Foxx fantastically portrays Charles in 'Ray'

By the time the catchy opening riff of "What'd I Say" beats through the theater and a set of fingers fly across the keyboard, the audience is already sold on "Ray." This is going to be an amazing film - the crowd can tell.

Musical revolution

Audience members and performers laughed, clapped their hands and threw fists in the air while celebrating the 32nd Annual Black Power Rally, but the message of the rally was a serious one. "Stop Pimpin' Hip Hop: The Revolution Will Not Be Commercialized" was the theme of this year's rally, and honored hip-hop while critically examining its exploitation. About 600 people gathered in the Pasant Theatre on Thursday night for the Black Student Alliance-coordinated event. Performances included a collection of theatrical skits, dancing by Urban Dreams, spoken poetry by Black Poets Society members, and the hip-hop and poetry of Detroit-based 3rd Eye Open, The Illiance and DefNok Entertainment.

Republicans face more term limits

Some state officials say Michigan House Republicans face an uphill battle in the race for seats, while political analysts say the close presidential race will leave the local power balance intact. All 110 spots in the House are up for grabs this year, and incumbent representatives are being booted out in 37 districts because of 6-year term limits introduced in 1992. The House is made up of 63 Republicans and 47 Democrats.

MSU fight song needs tuning, not as good as "The Victors"

You know the scene at the end of the movie "8 Mile" where Eminem wins the final freestyle rap battle because he knows everything the other guy is going to make fun of him for? That's what I feel like every time this U-M-MSU game rolls around. Every single year, you Sparties roll back your sleeves and bust out your best Michigan insults.

Wolverines' Watson is a big-time player

When MSU sophomore quarterback Drew Stanton approaches the line of scrimmage for the offense's first play against Michigan, there will be a 6-foot-4, 333-pound rock-of-a-man waiting in the trenches to make his day miserable. The Wolverines' Gabe Watson is more than the hulking defensive tackle at the center of U-M's imposing defense.

SN endorsement is not representation

How could you honestly print the editorial "Kerry in 2004" (SN 10/27) in The State News? Not only is it completely inappropriate to tell a 40,000-plus student body that the paper they read every day has an liberal agenda and that they can't count on fair and unbiased reporting, but you mean to tell me that every single person working for or employed by The State News is a Kerry supporter?
