Government offices observe Veterans Day

In observance of Veterans Day, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced that all Secretary of State branch offices and the Office of the Great Seal will be closed Thursday. Licenses and plates that expire on Thursday can be renewed on Friday without penalty.

New Izzone policy isn't anti-student

This letter is in response to Chris Hansen's letter to the editor ("Izzo's arrogance readily apparent" SN 11/9). First off, it is pretty classless to call people names - especially in a newspaper, when I doubt Hansen would even have the courage to say it to Izzo's face.

The classic Christmastime story "The Polar Express," known for its enchanting illustrations and touching message to believe in Santa Claus, is now engaging its readers on the silver screen. After years of reading the book to his children, actor Tom Hanks decided "The Polar Express," by Chris Van Allsburg, would make a good movie. The book tells the story of a young boy who had mixed feelings about the existence of Santa.

COMMENTARY

SN made illogical mascot argument

I find a strange logic working in the editorial "Hurtful mascot" (SN 11/8). The staff opinion states "Mascots work better sticking to the realm of animals and mythological creatures" and "isolating and ascribing certain behaviors to a group of people will cause only one thing - prejudice." However, our own mascot here at MSU is not an animal nor a mythological creature.
