The MSU College of Human Medicine won't be relocated to Grand Rapids until at least 2007, and could cost only half as much as university officials originally estimated. What happened?

Ann Arbor - As the MSU team buses sat outside Michigan Stadium, head coach John L. Smith stared back at the "Big House" with a glazed look on his face. Perhaps Smith was thinking about what could have been, if his Spartans (4-4 overall, 3-2 Big Ten) had held onto their 17-point fourth quarter lead.

SN endorsement follows old practice

I only have one question for Ron Ziehmer, who seems so appalled that The State News endorsed a presidential candidate "SN endorsement is not representation" (SN 10/29): Have you ever read a newspaper in your entire life?

MIDDAY UPDATE: Analysts predict close 'U' trustee race

It'll be a close call, but this time Florida won't have to be involved. Political analysts and experts say it's too early to tell who might win the two open seats on the MSU Board of Trustees because pollsters are predicting a close race to the White House on Tuesday. In Tuesday's election, incumbents Joel Ferguson and Randall Pittman are fighting to keep their positions on the board as seven other candidates vie for their seats.

ICE HOCKEY

Vicari injured during lethargic loss

You know things aren't going well when, for the first 55 minutes of Saturday's hockey game, the loudest cheer came when Jason Teague took a 3-yard plunge into the end zone for a touchdown. That was the case for Spartans (2-4-0, 1-3-0 CCHA) as they were romped, 5-2, by Nebraska-Omaha (5-1-0, 3-1-0) in front of only 4,946 fans at Munn Ice Arena. "(I'm) confused," MSU head coach Rick Comley said.

FOOTBALL

Sore subject

Ann Arbor - When sophomore quarterback Drew Stanton walked down the tunnel at Michigan Stadium to begin the second half with his teammates, he wore a baseball cap instead of a helmet, sneakers instead of football cleats and MSU warm-ups instead of full pads.
