'Horrors' corny at times; redeems self with songs

With infectious music and talented singers, "Little Shop of Horrors" makes for a rockin' evening with catchy tunes and amusing puppets. The musical's plot revolves around florist Seymour Krelbourn, who discovers a one-of-a-kind plant that draws in customers and elevates him to celebrity status. Unfortunately, the plant, named Audrey II after the woman Krelbourn loves, feeds on human blood.

Reel big fun

Getting an audience for smaller-budget independent films is not always an easy task. Without the studio name or financing, some films might never even make it past private viewing.

Cafeterias offer a lot for vegetarians

Ms. Trier's article seems to be little more than a whining session ("Cafeterias lack protein options for vegetarians" SN 3/30). She complains about the lack of protein alternatives for vegetarians and untimely service in the dorms. I suggest you take another look and put your attitude in check.

What is ESPN doing in East Lansing?

Old McDonald's bags and open barbecue sauce packages litter the floor. Age-old newspapers and ratty shoes are on the stairs, on futons and lost beneath mounds of clothes. And there is no place Jim Caple would rather be. Caple is a senior writer for ESPN.com, and his assignment for the past two and a half weeks has been to become a college student again: eating, sleeping, drinking and going to class after not putting such activities together in more than 20 years. MSU is the fifth campus on his university tour of schools with teams in the men's NCAA Tournament.

What do you get when you put three musically inclined friends in a house together to live, work, eat, practice and perform together as a band? Well, in the case of the harmonic folk-pop trio Girlyman, you get some pretty darn good music. In addition to being in a nationally touring music act together, the members of Girlyman share a home in New York City.

Championship hopes ruined in loss to Ariz.

It was the 2000-01 season when the Spartans made their third Final Four in a row with hopes of repeating their national championship from a year ago. With the appearance, MSU became the third school in a row since 1985 to advance to three straight Final Fours and only the ninth school in tournament history. Sophomore Jason Richardson and seniors Andre Hutson and Charlie Bell were the MSU leaders the year after the departures of Morris Peterson and Mateen Cleaves, and were able to lead MSU back to elite status with another Final Four appearance. The Spartans started the new season where they left off the previous year.

Smother Earth

Remember how at the end of every "Captain Planet" cartoon that weird, green-haired super hero would stick his face in the screen and give you a purpose-laden epilogue to the plot of the episode? Somehow, through a strange cartoon about teenagers, magic rings and environmental disasters, the cartoon's creators expressed the real-world effects of environmental destruction.

FOOTBALL

Spartans show support for fellow athletes in tourneys

The MSU football team will take the field for its fourth spring practice of the year today, but the Spartans said they realize they are probably sitting second fiddle to the basketball program. Both the men's and women's basketball teams have advanced to the Final Four, and the MSU football team is among the ballers' biggest supporters. "Everybody's watching," senior defensive back Eric Smith said.
