Peaceful party

'Kings' compels frustration

Sometimes, you just can't get away from your family. No matter what events occur in life, most people remain in an unremitting bond with their family members, whether bitter or pleasant, memorable or commonplace. With that in mind, it seems very unlikely that writer and director Marylou Tibaldo-Bongiorno could be an only child - her story in "Little Kings," about the lives of three brothers in New Jersey, is too involved, and too well-versed, to be written by someone unfamiliar with sibling relationships. In Tibaldo-Bongiorno's film, each brother is struggling with his interpersonal relationships -Dom (Dominic Pace) is in love with his brother Gino's pregnant wife, Lori, played by Rita Pietropinto.

Urban river

It's not lost, it's not dead and it's certainly not beyond repair. The dark, usually murky water of the Red Cedar River, which some call the "Dead Cedar," can be misleading, but the winding waterway is in much better shape than it was in the 1960s, when a film of sludge and algae skimmed the top. As a result of the Clean Water Act of 1972, the Red Cedar has become a cleaner, safer river. But even so, E.

ASMSU officials need time to finalize results of student election

ASMSU officials have candidate results for last week's undergraduate election, but Student Assembly Chairperson Andrew Schepers said finalizing the results "takes time." ASMSU's election committee, along with the university's election committee, has to review the student government's election totals to make sure there are no "screw-ups" and to make sure the counts are accurate, he said. ASMSU's election committee also will have to validate write-in candidates and confirm that the write-ins have been placed in the correct college as a candidate. Undergraduates voted on candidates for 58 open seats and a proposed tax hike of $3 in the election, which took place Wednesday and Thursday.

'Timing' jokes with life

"All in the Timing" offers a variety of jokes from witty to slapstick humor and provides a wonderful evening of laugh-out-loud comedy. The collection of seven one-act plays touches on a range of topics from relationships to bad luck. The show begins with the play, "Variations on the Death of Trotsky." The comedy revolves around the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and how he might have reacted upon finding a mountain climber's ax in his head. Kevin Burnham, who plays Trotsky, masters the calm and unconcerned aura, which is essential to make the show amusing - although it takes a few moments to understand exactly what is happening. Up next is "Singular Kinda Guy," which leaves the audience questioning the sanity of the character.

Weekend matchup brings former tourney memories

It wasn't long ago that getting to the Final Four was a dream that would put the MSU men's basketball program on the college basketball map. During the 1998-99 season, led by a younger Tom Izzo, the team was trying to build the foundation of a championship program with a group of guys from Flint just after an era of the "Fab Five" years at Michigan. That season, the team was coming off a Big Ten Championship and a Sweet 16 loss to top-seeded North Carolina and had five starters returning - Mateen Cleaves, Andre Hutson, Antonio Smith, Jason Klein and Charlie Bell - with Morris Peterson and A.J.

March on

Despite how often the phrase has been used recently, there can be no denying that it's definitely a good time to be a Spartan.
