Parents reveal details of student's death

On the night she was killed, MSU student Dannielle Brandt was walking back to her dorm room from the Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education, heading north across Mount Hope Road. It was late at night, reportedly foggy, and Brandt was wearing dark clothing. There are no crosswalks at the intersection of Mount Hope Road and Farm Lane. Police rev up for weekend

Drunken stupors, alcohol-enraged arguments and public urination are just a sample of what area police officers have seen students participate in during the madness of Welcome Weekend. I turned my cell phone on while walking out of the movie theater, and I checked my e-mail as soon as I could after watching "Pulse" — alone. Was it a clever idea to have ghosts take over technology (computers, phones)? Yes, but it was done in such cliché, dreary manner that it just didn't work.

City approves East Village developer

The East Village Project finally has some muscle behind it. The city of East Lansing entered into a memorandum of understanding with The Pierce Company in early August, which gives them 18 months to complete market, traffic and environmental studies, among others. Specializing in developments for college towns, the company is putting the finishing touches on a project similar to the one targeted for the city at San Diego State University. "We want to create a 24/7 all-year-round live, learn, work and play environment," said Frederick Pierce, the company's president and CEO.

Expanding into nature

Walkers, joggers and bikers will have a little more to enjoy as the city begins construction to extend the Northern Tier Trail. The trail has been a prominent feature in the city for about seven years, and runs north to south along the west side of Abbott Road for four miles.

Navigating MSU is an adventure

As I reflect upon my 5-1/2 cruel and unusual undergraduate years at MSU, I deliberate about the issue of getting to and from class. It can be the most frustrating and tiresome of times or the most rewarding of times.
