Levin: 'Stay the course' Iraq policy not working

Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., got the support he needed when the Iraq Study Group Report was released Wednesday, calling on the Bush administration to make changes in policies regarding the war in Iraq. The report, which is sometimes referred to as the Baker report, is a 160-page bipartisan book calling for the removal of U.S.

Art museum may move location

The university could see a change on campus if a proposal to plan to move the Kresge Art Museum to a new location is passed by the MSU Board of Trustees on Friday. According to the board's agenda for the upcoming meeting, if the proposal passes, the project could cost up to $30 million. Under the proposed project, the museum would also move into the old Paolucci Building along East Circle Drive, which is currently abandoned. Officials from the museum did not want to comment on the issue until after the meeting, but MSU's chief engineer, Robert Nestle, said this site had a lot of good attributes that would benefit an art museum in the future. "The current building is vacant and is not a good candidate for other uses," Nestle said.

Students display flowers at greenhouse holiday event

Horticulture students, such as freshman Sara Dahms, showcased the poinsettias they raised from sprouts at MSU Greenhouse's 19th annual Gardens Holiday Open House. Students from the MSU Greenhouse invited East Lansing community members to visit Thursday and check out some of the projects the horticulture students have done throughout the course of the semester. "We really wanted to have the community see what students have been doing," said Jessica Albright, the educational coordinator for the 4-H Children's Garden.

Pretty good year for some

A good year for … Democratic Party        While we all should be thankful for the loss of the Republican majority (whew!), it should be noted that the Democrats won by default.

Return to sender

A great number of skilled big men have come through East Lansing during Tom Izzo's tenure: Zach Randolph was a fantastic scorer with his back to the basket, Antonio Smith could rebound like no other and Paul Davis could knock down shots from any spot on the floor. But the Spartans never have had a major shot-blocking presence — until now.

U.P. trip a homecoming for Comley

The city of Marquette still holds a special place in the heart of MSU hockey head coach Rick Comley. Not only did he coach at Northern Michigan from 1976 to 2002, but he was the first head coach in Wildcats history and was pivotally involved in the construction of their hockey rink. Comley's grandest coaching achievement with the Wildcats came in the 1990-91 season, when he guided the team to a 38-5-4 overall record and a national championship. This weekend, Comley will take his No.

We should prepare for global warming

The recent cold front sweeping the Midwest brought more than downed power lines and holiday joy. As I braved the chilly temperatures and made my daily trek across the frozen tundra of campus, I could not help but hear an overabundance of debate regarding global warming. My first thought was, "Wow, someone is having an intelligent conversation about something other than Seth from 'The O.C.'" But I got to thinking about why people are even debating this issue. Global warming is the most debated scientific FACT I can remember.
