MSU hosts Red Cross blood drive

Taking a small step toward saving someone’s life is what Ahron Barber said makes donating blood important to him. Barber, an MSU astrophysics senior, completed his eighth blood donation since turning 17, (the minimum age required to donate), Tuesday afternoon at the International Center during the American Red Cross’ first blood drive at MSU in June.

The MSU Department of Teacher Education is producing award-winning student teachers. The Michigan Association of Teacher Educators awarded two MSU students in their 23rd annual Michigan Student Teacher/Intern of the Year Award competition.

Criticism helpful for rude people

The reason jerks exist is because nobody ever calls them on their BS. This is why I can’t stand polite people. Infinitely tolerant of even the most egregiously inappropriate and insecure behavior, they outright ignore sexist, racist, selfish, or overcompensating behavior, usually only to rip into the poor sap the moment they’re out of the room.

Gay marriage ban in Calif. unjustified, unlikely

It’s not surprising that nearly three weeks after the California Supreme Court overturned the voter-approved ban on gay marriage, people are already working to revoke the ruling. A coalition of religious and conservative activists have collected 1.1 million signatures to get an initiative barring gay marriage on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Council delays vote on City Center II

When the East Lansing City Council’s Tuesday meeting approached 1 a.m., the council decided to defer its decision on the site plan, special use permit and zoning plans for City Center II until its June 17 meeting.

It can withstand grilling, boiling, baking and steaming, but Michigan’s asparagus — second only to California in acres planted — is threatened by weeds, plant disease and compromised farm land. An MSU research team, comprised of professors, farmers and researchers, has been working on a project focused on ensuring Michigan remains a leading producer of asparagus.

Two alternative energy projects led by MSU professors were chosen last week to receive grants from the University Research Corridor, or URC, the partnership among MSU, Wayne State University and University of Michigan, the state’s three research universities.
