History was made in Denver on Wednesday when Illinois Sen. Barack Obama officially secured the Democratic presidential nomination through intervention from his former rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. In a surprise move, Obama appeared with Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., later that night. Biden had just accepted the Democratic bid for the vice presidency.

Bikes are gaining ground across campus as more students are trading in their car keys for a new set of wheels. The MSU Department of Police and Public Safety reported that since 2003, bike registration increased 273 percent on campus.

Young Spartans head to Okla. for season-opening Sooner Invitational

The resounding theme of the offseason for the MSU volleyball team has been youth. In the offseason, the team brought in the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com, a major collegiate volleyball recruiting site. Every one of those players will have to contribute to a squad with only three upperclassmen.

Consistent views on life a must

Abortion is a hot topic in our society, but it basically boils down to one question: When does an embryo or fetus deserve basic human rights? People who are pro-choice believe that this change comes later in the pregnancy or at birth, while those who are pro-life believe that this important change comes at conception.

'I have a dream' speech still remembered by professor

Forty-five years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his celebrated “I Have a Dream” speech. The success of King’s speech, however, was ironic. At the end of his allotted eight minutes, the minister improvised. The memorable lines, “I have a dream” and “let freedom ring,” came spontaneously. The prepared text was adequate, the improvised remarks inspiring. Woven together, the two parts of the speech were powerful.
