Associate Athletic Director John Lewandowski confirmed in an email that for several weeks the athletic department has been aware of “financial reporting issues” by the Downtown Coaches Club. The Michigan Lottery Commision is reviewing the group’s finances and the athletic department has suspended all activities with the club, Lewandowski said. Lewandowski said the department will assist the Lottery Commission in any way possible but he does not believe the abuse by the club was extensive. “While there are issues that I found concerning, I do not believe the organization was engaged in wide spread abuse,” he said.
ASMSU’s Student Assembly passed a resolution Thursday to support a bill in the State Legislature regarding medical amnesty. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. The bill would establish legal safeguards for underage students who consume too much alcohol and, as a result, seek medical attention. ASMSU has been trying to push the bill through the State Legislature for three years.
