Student Group remodels local school

When the elementary students of Sheridan Road Elementary School walk into their classrooms today, they’ll have new murals, bookshelves and brightly colored walls awaiting them — thanks to the work of about 150 volunteers Saturday from MSU and the Lansing community.

Everyone’s favorite, brightly colored, single-serve malt drinks are back — without caffeine or energy additives. Although now allowed to return to shelves, the drinks, including Four Loko, still are being criticized by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, or MLCC, for high alcohol content.

MSU suspends relationship with booster club

Associate Athletic Director John Lewandowski confirmed in an email that for several weeks the athletic department has been aware of “financial reporting issues” by the Downtown Coaches Club. The Michigan Lottery Commision is reviewing the group’s finances and the athletic department has suspended all activities with the club, Lewandowski said. Lewandowski said the department will assist the Lottery Commission in any way possible but he does not believe the abuse by the club was extensive. “While there are issues that I found concerning, I do not believe the organization was engaged in wide spread abuse,” he said.

ASMSU passes resolution to support medical amnesty

ASMSU’s Student Assembly passed a resolution Thursday to support a bill in the State Legislature regarding medical amnesty. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. The bill would establish legal safeguards for underage students who consume too much alcohol and, as a result, seek medical attention. ASMSU has been trying to push the bill through the State Legislature for three years.
