MSU Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity holds registration tables for National Voter Registration Day

For National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, the Michigan State University Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. set up a voting registration table at the Wells Hall Courtyard. According to communication senior Brandon Foster, who is also Zeta Delta chapter historian, the goal of the event was to not only get people registered to vote, but to also teach the importance of voting education.

Whitmer plans for paid family and medical leave in 'What’s Next' address

During her “What’s Next” address on Aug. 30, 2023, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer explained that a majority of Michiganders support paid family and medical leave so workers can spend time with their newborns, care for a sick parent or recover after a severe medical procedure. Whitmer plans to enact paid leave in a way that would ensure “people have breathing room” between the time of their leave and coming back to work.

‘It’s very jarring’: MSU film students react to Hollywood writers' strikes

As the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood pass the 125-day mark, Michigan State University film students are growing uncertain about their futures. “I don't want anybody going out there thinking that they're going to just have a set position in the set job that they're going to be offered,” journalism and music performance senior Aiden Binford said. “It's very jarring. It's very unstable.”

MSU football coach Mel Tucker to be fired

MSU's Athletic Director Alan Haller intends to terminate head football coach Mel Tucker’s contract, according to a statement released today. Haller said Tucker engaged in "conduct which constitutes moral turpitude," and brought "public disrespect, contempt, or ridicule upon the University."

“Walk a Mile in My Shoes” rally promotes mental health, wellness

On Sept. 13 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., around 2,000 Michigan citizens surrounded the Michigan Capitol for the “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” rally to bring more attention to mental and public health and wellness. The main organization that held this rally was the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan, or CMHA, with different associated organizations representing each county in Michigan.
