All Shades of Chocolate: Getting below the surface — the importance of Black language

We'll always joke around and we'll always have a laugh, but whether we're joking around or being serious, we will express those things in the best way we know how. The way we speak has many layers to it, and it can be light hearted when referring "Black sayings." For example, "Don't touch nun when we go into this grocery store" or it can become serious when we are trying to be understood when navigating our day-to-day lives. This is what we'll get into this week.

MSU students say sirens, safety alerts can be triggering following campus shooting

The Feb. 13 campus shooting at Michigan State University impacted students and the community in so many ways; for most, the grief and shock they experienced created trauma that still lingers. Many students have realized that noises or other daily occurrences they previously didn't pay much attention to have become triggers, or anything that causes a person to relive past trauma.
