COLUMN: I decided to try out for the MSU football team as a joke. Then I got invested.

At first, me actually trying out for the team was a joke with my friends and coworkers. However, as the tryouts neared, I began to see this as an opportunity. At worst, this would provide an hour of fun while being able to feel the rush of a competitive sport again. And at best, I would get to dawn a green and white uniform on the Spartan Stadium field next fall. 

MSU professor finds mental health services reduce jail populations, U.S. counties lack effective practices

An MSU College of Human Medicine professor’s study, "Recommended Mental Health Practices for Individuals Interacting With U.S. Police, Court, Jail, Probation, and Parole Systems," found there is a severe lack of services in all counties across the U.S. Of 59 recommended practices, no practices were used in more than 43% of counties, the study found.

Michigan State baseball lost to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 11-7 in the first matchup between the two teams this season, putting the Spartans at a 10-13 overall record so far this season. Despite a great offensive performance by the Spartans, the Grizzlies scored 5 runs in the final three innings, helping push them past Michigan State.

MSU women's basketball's Abbey Kimball named to 2023-2024 Academic All-District Team

Michigan State women’s basketball sophomore guard Abbey Kimball was named to the women's basketball 2023-2024 Academic All-District Team. Kimball was selected by College Sports Communicators, or CSC, and the announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon. She was the only player from Michigan State to be selected.

Michigan State University’s University Council, a representative body including faculty, staff, administrators and students, voted today to support the removal of trustees Rema Vassar and Dennis Denno by the governor.

New active violence incident training video released by MSU Police and Public Safety

MSU Department of Police and Public Safety released an active violence incident awareness training video March 25th. The training emphasized the run-hide-fight response model, what to expect from officers when responding to an active violence incident, as well as reporting concerning or threatening behavior to the MSU Care and Intervention Team.
