Michigan State men's basketball held its first official practice of the season Monday afternoon. Here are six things to note before the season begins in November.
MSU will host Northwestern for its Big Ten opener on Dec. 4 at the Breslin Center following a challenging non-conference schedule.
For Joshua Langford, helping others learn to do what makes them happy at the university that welcomed him like family has truly been a full circle moment. Izzo, the 2016 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, has an NCAA National Championship, six Big Ten Tournament titles, eight Final Four appearances, multiple National Coach of the Year awards and 10 regular-season Big Ten Championships on his resume. He has also guided his team to a Big Ten record of 24 straight NCAA tournament appearances.
It remains to be seen how this class will round out, but if it continues to trend in the direction it has been, it has the potential to accomplish special things in East Lansing.
“They want a big leap from me, too,” Akins said. “They want me to be one of the best defenders on the team and one of the best offensive players on the team.”
According to a release from the LA District Attorney's Office, Bridges is facing one felony count of injuring a child's parent and two felony counts of of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

Highlighted by Spartan basketball legend and NBA Champion Draymond Green, the class also includes Herb Adderley (football), Kathy DeBoer (volleyball and basketball), Joan Garety (golf), Laura (Heyboer) Heethuis (soccer), Greg Jones (football), Kalisha Keane (basketball), Karen Langeland (basketball/administration) and Bob Steele (track and field).
Bridges was arrested and held on a $130,000 bond on June 29. He was released hours later after posting the bond, according to Los Angeles County Jail records. His next court date is July 20.
“The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges,” the Charlotte Hornets said in a release. “We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Garland also coached 18 Spartans who were drafted into the NBA, with six players selected from 2000-02.

Christie has all of the tools to be a successful professional, as his shooting ability, wing defensive prowess, and body frame potential all are at an NBA level, but many still believe he could have benefited from another year of Big Ten play.
“Obviously he was an amazing basketball player, but what he did with Lacey, even how he died, he was trying to help someone,” Mulligan said. “That's what I feel like being a Spartan is all about, so this is a good way to honor him.”
