Public art provides a sense of place, community

The East Lansing Public Arts Commission and the Public Art on Campus Committee work to ensure that public art installations are a part of construction or development projects in East Lansing and on MSU's campus. These groups aim to incorporate public art in order to provide a sense of community, provoke thought and elicit emotions.

Mock auction Bidding Blitz draws attention to student businesses

Attendees gathered at the Michigan State University's Student Union on Thursday night to participate in Bidding Blitz, an event hosted by UAB and Student-Made Michigan State, which encouraged attendees to explore student businesses. By interacting with the representatives of each business stationed at a table, guests were able to gain fake money, which they could then use to bid on different handmade items from the student businesses that were pre-purchased by UAB.

MSU's MLK Student Leadership Symposium celebrates legacy, community

Students, faculty and community members came together to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's legacy in an act of "radical community" during the MLK Student Leadership Symposium at Michigan State University. The event, which featured dancing, a keynote address and various artistic performances, was held on Jan. 18 in the MSU Union ballroom from 2:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Michigan State University associate professor of history Dr. LaShawn D. Harris works to tell the untold stories of Black women in New York City throughout her research and the publishing of her novels. Harris reflects on these stories and the impact of Martin Luther King Jr.
