Senior gymnast breaks MSU record

After a record-breaking performance Sunday, Spartans gymnast Kristen Coleman was named Big Ten gymnast of the week on Wednesday. The senior from Cornwall, Ontario, Canada broke her own all-around performance record against Western Michigan with a 39.625 tally, a full point higher than her previously set school record. Coleman set a personal high on floor exercise Sunday with a 9.950, her highest individual apparatus score of the night.

Gymnasts fall on the road at West Virginia

The MSU gymnastics team dropped a 194.875-194.275 decision at No. 20 West Virginia on Friday night. "We are very proud of the way our team was able to put together such a strong road score," MSU head coach Kathie Klages said in a written statement. "Our team worked very well (Friday), and we look forward to returning home to compete against Michigan in a head-to-head competition at Jenison Field House next weekend." Despite the road loss, the 194.275 team total was the Spartans' top road score of the season. The Spartans return to action at 7 p.m.

Gymnasts lose close meet to Illinois

The No. 18 MSU gymnastics team fell to Illinois on Saturday at Jenison Field House, 194.700-193.925. Freshman Rochelle Robinson won the only individual event of the night by scoring a 9.850 on the vault.

Gymnasts to face Illinois in Saturday matchup

The No. 18 MSU gymnastics team returns home Saturday, when it hosts Illinois at 7 p.m. at Jenison Field House. The Spartans are coming off back-to-back weekend victories and the first perfect 10 in MSU gymnastics history from freshman Rochelle Robinson on the vault in the Fox Run Invitational.

Freshman gymnast earns 1st perfect score in MSU history

When certain athletes make the transition from adolescence to college success, it can sometimes go straight to their heads. Not for freshman gymnast Rochelle Robinson. After a flawless 10.0 performance on the vault during Saturday's Fox Run Invitational in New Hampshire, Robinson got right back to her normal routine while practicing with the rest of her Spartans teammates. "I just basically take each week one at a time," Robinson.

No. 17 Spartans win Fox Run Invitational

The No. 17 MSU gymnastics team took first place Saturday in the Fox Run Invitational, defeating West Virginia, Brown and New Hampshire, the host team. With a team score of 194.000, the Spartans edged past New Hampshire's score of 193.975, giving the Spartans their second straight first-place finish. Freshman Rochelle Robinson achieved something that every gymnast strives for in a career — the perfect 10.0. Robinson's flawless score came from her performance on the vault.

WEB EXTRA: MSU gymnasts look to extend record of wins at invitational

The MSU gymnastics team will carry its No. 17 rank into New Hampshire this weekend for the Fox Run Invitational, where the Spartans will look to do something they've become quite accustomed to doing at this tournament — winning. Every other year, head coach Kathie Klages, now in her 17th season, takes her energetic gymnasts to this meet to bring home a victory. "We are very familiar with it," Klages said.

Coleman wins gymnast honors

Senior gymnast Kristen Coleman was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week. It's the first time she has received the award in her career. The honor came on the heels of posting a score of 39.525 in the all-around competition at the "Flip for a Cure" meet, which broke a 10-year-old school record. Coleman also garnered first-place performances on the uneven bars and balance beam, and finished tied for first with fellow Spartan Nicole Curler on the floor exercise.

Nicole Curler's freshman year has been a balancing act. Literally. The 5-foot gymnast attends classes, practices and study tables. Not to mention she ranks sixth in the nation on the balance beam (9.850) as of Jan.

Freshman gymnast Nicole Curler was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday. The award is the first of her career, and she is the first Spartan to receive the honor since 2005. "I am thrilled that Nicole won the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award," MSU head coach Kathie Klages said in a statement.
