Thursday offers nothing but disappointment

"War All the Time," the latest effort by power-rockers Thursday, is simply bad all the time. Every one of the CD's 11 songs sounds identical and if any hard rock fan stops paying attention to what's going on in the album following the third track, he or she cannot be blamed. The CD is a cornucopia of crud, culminating with lead vocalist Geoff Rickly's lack of singing skill.

It might not be December, but the MSU Department of Theater has its wish list ready. At the beginning of each school year, the department files an Annual Progress and Productivity Report (APPR) to the Office of Facilities Planning in the provost's office requesting a list of items for future improvement, Interim Department Chairman Frank Rutledge said. In the past, Rutledge said, the department has made requests for an air conditioner to be placed in the Auditorium's distinct, round Arena Theatre.

Bloody vampire/werewolf flick good for mindless escapism

If you liked "The Matrix" or "Blade," then you will love "Underworld," because it's basically the same movie. Part Shakespearean tragedy, part horror movie, the film is big on explosions, computer-animated werewolves, slowed-down fight scenes and the same vampire characters that have been in countless other movies. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a vampire fighting in an ancient war against werewolves.

Emmy Awards offer surprises, boredom

The 55th Annual Emmy Awards were held Sunday night and though they were laced with bits of comedy and drama, the overall feel of the yearly television award show was quite somber.I'm not one to normally catch four-hour-long, boring award shows, but since my favorite television comedy, "Sex and the City," was up for a handful of awards, I thought I would tune in to see if the leading ladies from New York City would walk away with a golden statue or not.And in case 'U' didn't catch it, the raunchy, laugh-filled comedy about four women's out-of-this-world lives only took home one Emmy - outstanding casting for a comedy series.Boo-hoo!

'Manor' lacks suspense, plot

Watching "Cold Creek Manor" is like eating cold leftovers from the fridge. The suspense film left little on the screen in the way of plot or real danger, just a lot of boring exposition and a mystery so easy anyone could have solved it. 'Splendor' a funny, entertaining biopic

If "American Splendor" is anything, it is intimate and honest - just like its real-life main character's comic book. It's the biography of comic-book writer Harvey Pekar, the creator of the underground comic "American Splendor." The comic follows Pekar's own life, the people he works with and his gloom and doom outlook on existence.
