'Art School Confidential' portrays bloody, comedic picture for viewers

Picture some colorful art students in the midst of a murder mystery, and voilá, the canvas is set for John Malkovich's latest flick — "Art School Confidential." The movie isn't quite a masterpiece, but it does have plenty of laughs and a plot that's about as lively as a Jackson Pollock drip painting. At times, the film seems very disjointed between scenes and kind of random.

German-born and internationally renowned artist Caspar Henselmann donated an abstract sculpture to MSU that was installed on the southwest corner of the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building on Tuesday. The sculpture, titled "BP 87," is made of steel and cement.

"Dead Man" makes "Tombstone" look like a leftover pizza without any cheese. Director and writer Jim Jarmusch's 1995 black-and-white Western is almost too good for words, but I'll type on since we don't print pantomime, and I'm a writer. Johnny Depp, the king of cool, plays the lead role of William Blake — a bookish type from Cleveland looking for an accounting job in the ruthlessly rugged West. Things become violent, as they should, and Blake flees to the woods as an outlaw after a night of passion with the lovely Thel Russell — played by Mili Avital.
